A Handful of Light – Poetry, Philosophy, & Psychology for the Conscious Mind.

What if the most priceless gift you could give another person were simply the best version of yourself?

A Handful of Light is a multi-genre collection by South African author Raymond Peter Luke,  and the first volume of The Light Series. It draws on a life of military service, martial arts, spiritual community leadership and a lifelong study of human consciousness. It was written without formal academic training and is shaped instead by lived experience.

Poetry, personal letters, philosophy and psychology are held together as one framework of enquiry rather than four separate sections. It is written for spiritual seekers, deep thinkers, educators, and anyone searching for direction and meaning.

Inside you will find 19 poems, from the intimately personal to the cosmic; six personal letters, including a retelling of a family gathering that unpacks the nature of a master tradesman; 13 original quotes and aphorisms on consciousness, creation and human potential; an original philosophy that introduces the coined term Omninature and explores the Maker God as the Initiating Principle and the expansion of space, matter and time; an Ubuntu prose meditation rooted in Alkebulan; a look at the Sacred Structural Ratio drawn from human skeletal anatomy; and an introductory psychological framework in which the conscious mind, subconscious mind, spirit and soul operate in parallel with the physical brain.

A Handful of Light does not ask you to agree. It invites you to enquire.

Three excerpts from the book – A Handful of Light.

A note from the author.

My aspiration goes beyond merely penning poetry; I aim to enrich and diversify the genre.

I embrace poetic licence to express myself with respect, fuelled by genuine intentions. In this light, I offer a unique vocabulary that reflects my vision.

My inspiration draws from the vast tapestry of human thought – an array of opinions, discussions, and debates that have unfolded over time – coupled with profound reflections that guide me to my insights.

For all who harbour curiosity, those who question, analyse, and seek a deeper understanding, this journey is toward a true spiritual quest that embodies pure intent.

My writings aim to nurture spirituality, fostering the growth of the conscious and subconscious mind, spirit, and soul. This journey’s outcome is to elevate one’s consciousness.

A Handful of Light is the invitation and the foundation of my enquiry. The true depth of the enquiry lies ahead.

From the Philosophy — The Collective Principles.

Together the four groups — Source, Process, Expression, and Collaboration — describe the full arc from origin to manifestation. From consciousness to form. From form to movement. From movement to the visible world. From the visible world to the human act of building something together within it.

This is the framework’s proposition stated in its most compressed form. Not as an argument. As structure. The collective principles are the map. And so forth.

From the Poetry corner!

A cup of kindness.

I raise a cup of kindness.

To a brother,

To family,

To friends,

To consciousness not yet met.

In celebration of now.

And hereafter,

Wherever you may go,

Or find yourself.

May prudence guide you.

Let us endeavour.

To share life on the square,

And part we must.

From the level,

And fidelity shields our journey.

I take with me.

In love and trust,

And I give to you,

In faith, a blessing,

An overflow of cornucopia.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is an ambitious, multi-genre work designed to elevate human consciousness and nurture spirituality. The author thoughtfully divides the volume into distinct sections like Poetry, Letters, Quotes, Philosophy, and Psychology, offering readers diverse entry points into its core message. From the accessible, emotionally resonant language of poems like “A Cup of Kindness” to the grounded wisdom found in personal entries like “A letter to my father”, the book successfully anchors abstract ideals in lived human experience and genuine affection.

Beyond its poetic and personal reflections, the book delves into expansive theoretical inquiries and practical self-improvement. Luke introduces intriguing philosophical concepts, such as Omninature and The First Life, while providing actionable guidance through structured daily affirmations and techniques for cognitive orientation. Ultimately, A Handful of Light is a contemplative and uplifting read that serves as a valuable addition to any personal growth or philosophical poetry collection, making it ideal for anyone curious about the intersection of mind, spirit, and nature. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

The Light Series—Volumes I–IV

A Four-Volume Body of Enquiry

The Light Series is a four-volume body of enquiry—the first major independent, multi-genre philosophical and psychological work of its kind to emerge from Southern Africa.

The Series is structured as a single, progressive framework — not four separate books but one continuous enquiry unfolding across disciplines. Volume I introduces the foundation. Volumes II through IV deepen each discipline in turn, building on what the reader has already absorbed rather than restarting.

At its core, The Light Series addresses a question that has occupied human thought across every age and culture: what is the nature of the mind, and how does a person develop the capacity to receive, hold, and act on knowledge that elevates them? The author’s Framework proposes that this development follows principles found in cellular biology, cosmic structure, and the lived experience of the soul. Consciousness is not an accident of matter — it is the foundational property of the One Source, present at every scale of existence, expressed through the individual mind.

The Light Series is written for the curious, the conscious, and the willing — for readers who do not require permission to ask the oldest questions and who understand that the inquiry itself is the path.

“Everything is learned. Nothing is broken. Everything is permitted. So is the opposite ability. All is selected. All is progress.”
